South Africa’s Comrades Marathon Association organises one of the world’s toughest and most popular ultra marathons – a 56 mile route between Durban and Pietermaritzburg attracting runners from more than 60 countries.
In 2014, the CMA Board decided to employ corporate governance and effective financial controls to help bring about cost savings. Alain Dalais took up the post and has introduced an electronic suppliers database, supplier relationship management workshops as well as developing and securing approval within a year for the CMA’s first procurement policy document. In 23 months Dalais has helped increase the budget surplus at CMA, helped obtain a clean audit for 2014/2015 and contributed to CMA being awarded two of South Africa’s prestigious Discovery Sports Industry Awards.
