Janine Hansby is a dual winner in this year’s awards. She also played a major part in the transformation of the procurement function across 16 countries by South Africa’s Standard Bank, which picked up the “best procurement and supply consultancy project of the year”. Nick Geimer, former group CPO at Standard Bank, described in her nomination how Hansby energised procurement across the 16 Standard Bank franchises outside of South Africa. He described the situation when she took over in 2014 as head of procurement, Rest of Africa, as a “bleak picture” with “repeat unsatisfactory audits, poor spend controls, no management information and poor investment in training & development”. In less than 18 months she and her team redesigned key source-to-pay processes and improved the control mechanisms within procurement, while reducing turnaround times.
Judges comments: “She’s articulate, an excellent performer who has transformed procurement within her company within 18 months and raised its voice.”
